Making BikeSafe happen
As a 501(c)3 non-profit program, BikeSafe operates on grants from local, state, and federal organizations along with the generosity of donations made directly to the KiDZ Neuroscience Center - our center for youth injury prevention that is the home of both BikeSafe and WalkSafe at the University of Miami's Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.
This funding has made the following projects - both past and present - possible, allowing BikeSafe to perform traffic safety research while simultaneously reaching youths and parents throughout Greater Miami with life-saving educational programs and informational content.
This partnership will support the Village of Pinecrest’s SS4A Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, in coordination with the global engineering firm Stantec. The project will identify locations for improving street safety and connectivity combined with community engagement and pop-up events.
This two-year partnership with Miami-Dade’s Vision Zero team will geolocate trauma data for pedestrian and bicycle crashes and will examine innovative manners of collecting undocumented crash and near-miss data.
This two-year partnership with the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians will gather community input and form an action plan towards walkability and mobility improvements within the reservation.
In partnership with the Miami-Dade County School Board and with the support of the Miami Police Department, this grant will fund two public input sessions, mobility data collection, and temporary pop-up protected bike lane and safe street events in Miami’s Coconut Grove neighborhood.
Our one-year partnership with the Friends of the Underline brings bicycle rodeos for youths and families to a series of events across Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Miami’s latest urban separated bike lane and pedestrian path.
This Transportation Alternatives grant will support the creation of WalkSafe and BikeSafe’s all-new online education portal with virtual curricula, learning materials, and new resources; created especially with safe streets and protected bike lanes in mind.
Our latest Transportation Alternative grant will support the creation and scientific evaluation of a new BikeSafe Elementary educational curriculum based around the train-the-trainer model, in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
This project will pilot a series of after-school “Bike Clubs” in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, with an all-new multi-week curriculum, activities, and class projects.
This project, in partnership with the City of Miami’s Parks and Recreation Department, will create five interactive “Safety Trails” for families to explore throughout the city, plus additional outreach and community events.
This project will continue implementation of WalkSafe and BikeSafe in Florida’s Monroe, Broward, Palm Beach, Osceola, and Orange counties.

This project will extend BikeSafe’s on-bike educational program – in conjunction with Miami-Dade County Parks – throughout the 2016-2017 school year.
This Safe Routes to School initiative will extend WalkSafe and BikeSafe’s existing multimedia grant for an additional year and help initiate the creation of BikeSafe’s Community Conversation interview series.
This Safe Routes to School initiative, through Florida’s UF SRTS program, will support further WalkSafe and BikeSafe multimedia efforts towards traffic safety, including videos, flyers, posters, and other media content for bicycle riders and pedestrians.
